Then ClubHouse-PM's
which will it be?
The Lists and Advisors
They are so similar we can categorize them as the same.
Someone calls up for a pro for a kitchen remodel
The List's or Advisors contact ten "Pro's" for the one Kitchen job.
The company charges all ten "Pro's" $100.00 dollars each as a "Lead to a Job"
Sometimes when the Pro's call the "Lead" back no one even answers the phone
If they do answer the phone and go through with doing the work only one "Pro"
will get the job. What do you suppose he pays the finder fee with?
That's right - he tags an extra $100.00 onto your bill
Also now the Pro's can Advertise on the sites for more exposure
The ones that pay the most get top ranking
not because they are the best - but because they paid the most
Now these sites are so ruthless they are targeting 16 year olds for $10.00 ea.
for leads on babysitting jobs - of course they qualify the kids first to make it official
Home Warrenties
These Companies all vary in price but all do the same thing
The Homeowner pays a yearly fee
They are very specific on what is covered here's an example
True Story
Winter was coming soon. The homeowner had a local furnace man out to clean and inspect the furnace - in his inspection he noticed a crack in the heat exchanger
and the homeowner was told he needed a new furnace
The Homeowner called his Home warranty company and told them he thought he might need a new furnace - not telling them he had someone out to check
So the home warranty company sent a guy out to check and that guy said there was nothing wrong with the furnace - The homeowner got on the phone with the warranty company while the tech was still at his house. He told them of the previous pro and what was determined -- the homeowner then pointed out the problem to the Tech.
It was agreed that a new furnace was in order
So the Warranty Company said a new furnace was on it's way -- about four days later it arrived - several days after that an installer showed up to install the new furnace
Now this Homeowner had a Rheem furnace and AC unit
The AC unit was ok so was not replaced even though in that situation the coil should have been replaced at the same time - anyway - The new furnace was not a Rheem - it was a "never heard of that one before" brand furnace
The installer installed the new furnace
When he was done he handed the homeowner a bill for a little over $1,200.00
So his warranty still cost him over $1,200.00 and he got a no name furnace.
Can you even get parts for this furnace?
The Warranty itself cost $800.00 a year - it still cost the homeowner $1,200.00 plus.
So in the big picture it cost the Homeowner a little over $2,000.00 and he had to wait over a week to get it installed - he was very lucky frigid temps did not exist.
It would have probably cost him a little more to get a Rheem installed by the service guy that originally came out but it would have probably been next day service and he would have gotten a very good furnace
Bottom line
Most years nothing happens so the warranty company pays nothing and pockets the money. Believe me if they think they can get out of it they will try.
Remember the first guy the warranty company sent out said nothing was wrong with the furnace -- in that case with a cracked heat exchanger it could definitely leech carbon monoxide into the house.
The Warranty Company didn't even care
plus your out of pocket expense is almost the same as a
good furnace and someone local put it in
